windows xp softwareHow compatible is Windows XP software and hardware with Windows Vista?

I am thinking about buying a new computer with Windows Vista installed on it, however, all of my current software and hardware on my current computer is installed in XP. Is it still possible to use programs and hardware on my current machine on a Vista machine? How compatible is XP with Vista?
You will need to visit the websites of the products you currently have to see if they are Vista compatible.

For example, some printers and the accompanying software may work with XP but not Vista. Other programs such as older versions of AutoCad and Sage accounting software also will not wwindows xp softwareork in Vista.
most of it is compatible now what with the driver vendors coming up with patches and new drivers for the software and hardware.

my advice update to vista now. you will probably get a driver for your hardware.
Best thing to do is see if there are Vista drivers for all your hardware including your printer and download and burn them onto a disc before you even install Vista. If you have a ethernet card that's not in Vistas database and you install Vista then you wont be able to get online to get the drivers for it. As far as software goes you should go to their website awindows xp softwarend see what operating systems they are compatible with. Another thing I consider a MUST before upgrading is to go here and download and run the upgrade advisor that will tell you the compatibility of you hardware and software. A lot of people dont then come here whining about Vista not working with this or that on their computers when simply running the advisor would have given them a heads-up on what they would have to do to run Vista. If you have a Lexmark printer make sure there are Vista drivers because they have really dropped the ball as far as getting Vista drivers out.
