open source desktop publishingHow can I become an amateur graphic designer?

I'm 12, aiming at a career in graphic design and/or desktop publishing. I already create visually pleasing reports, essays, papers, and projects, I'm on the Yearbook team, interested in photography, and would work as an editor for our school newspaper if we had one. I'm wondering if there are any classes and/or software you'd recommendopen source desktop publishing to further my skills. My goals are to get my skills good enough to the point where I would be able to sell my services. I have a Mac and already own copies of Pages, Word, iMovie, iPhoto, GarageBand, and Scribus (open source desktop publishing software - I don't really like it.). Thanks!
You are an amateur - so the question is what pathopen source desktop publishing to being a professional and getting paid. And for someone your age, I would think doing volunteer work in your community, making posters and brochures for groups that could use them for fund raising but otherwise could not afford to pay someone, so you build a reputation and portfolio of finished work.
