i have this giant debate in German on thursday and i need as many arguments as poss. i'm on the side of the music industry and i'm supposed to go against getting free downloads off the internet.
btw...can i get some statistics if possible? cuz i heard somewhere that limewire music or whatever isn't that good quality?
THANK YOU SO MUCH. best answer will be chosen.
Well, setting aside the legal issues, there are also ethical implications. Keep in mind that musicians and song writers get paid when their music is purchased. They don't get paid a lot, but they do get paid something. And that small amount per purchase adds up when there are multiple purchases. While artists (and I use the term loosely in this case) like Britney Spears are filthy rich, people like her are the exception, not the rule. Most musicians don't make crazy money. Most make very little. In fact, a large number of musicians have day jobs to pay their bills because they can't live off their music. Some make enough to live off their music if they live frugally, but they're pretty lucky. Musicians are people, they have bills to pay. When they go into the studio to record a new album, they have to pay to make that album. They pay for studio time, mixing, editing, and tons of other things involved in the process. I have a relative who cut an indie CD, and it cost his band almost $15,000.00, which is really dirt cheap. He sold his car to pay for it. It's not unusual ffree limewire free download music music downloadsor musicians to pay $100,000.00 to put out their CD when you factor in expenses like promotion (you may be able to find actual numbers online). The point is, they pay to make the CD. It costs them money, and a pretty good chunk of money at that. They hope to recoup the debt and to hopefully make a profit off of CD sales. If people download instead of paying for the CD, they've lost the profit off of that non-sale. They may not manage to break even if enough people steal their music instead of buying it. If they can't make money, they're screwed. Some people say that musicians should make music because they love it and not for profit, but doing something you love doesn't pay the rent or the electric bills. If they can't make money off their music, they have to do something that does pay money, which means less time for music, which means less music produced. If they have a studio contract, the studios keep track of sales, which act like ratings. If sales are low because thousands choose to steal instead of buying, the artist can find that their contract has been terminated because the studio doesn't think they're worth the investment. They may be able to sign with a small indie studio, but then again they might not. It can end careers.
The music you can get from Limewire is as good quality as music you can get from any other download source, as playing it depends on your system, or what you are playing it on. The thing is that there is no free limewire free download music music downloads"free" music.
Check out this recent article about downloading music. Don't plagiarize, but read and quote:
Its kind of simple really,a lot of people cant spend money on what they like(ya sounds shitty) so they tend to download it.
You can blame them, its right there, why wouldnt they want to download it?
Also take a look at this argument:
When it comes to music some artists might have say 1-3 good songs which are really good and the others are well near dumb, but will you play 20$ for all the other crap?
This is where "free" music comes in, people download the whole album freely sample it and download or pay for the ones that they do like(Yes this is true for the fact that a heck load of people i know do it).
Also do you even know the ways in which the music companies screw with you?
you can PAY and download the music on your Mp3 player/Computer but you CANT burn it into a cd and enjoy it in your kick *** music system!
i mean its UR music? y the hell cant you download it and play it wherever the hell you like. You supposed to enjoy the music not fret about all the restrictions and laws and guidelines it comes with!
At least with CDs this is taken care of since you can burn it elsewhere if you have the original but in that case you'll be lisntening to the rest of the crap on the CD as well!
Again its free :D
