Hi! I recently wanted to buy 2nd class stamps from the Royal Mail website and when I tried to register for the account so that I could pay with my a Visa Debit card, I have been asked for my bank password. Is it alright or should I not give it to them? Was it a fake Royal Mail website that I was on?
Initially treat this as a scam.
HOWEVER, some banks have got a system whereby whenever you make a purchase on participating websites, you get a pop-up window asking you to confirm the purchase with certain details. I think this is called Natwest Secure.
Its possible the Royal Mail website uses this, so if you're unsure ring your bank and ask.
Still have to disagree. While I am aware of sites asking for additional info like postal code, etc to help deter fraud, asking for your banking password is not legit. Sorry, no way around it. Even if it is legit, that is horrible judgement on the part of Royal Mail to ask a question like that.
do not give it to them! it's a scam. anregister website with askd you should never give your bank password out, at all.. you're better off paying for the stamps in person at the bank itself
NEVER, EVER, NEVER give out any of your passwords to anyone nor use your CC or DC on a site that you are unfamiliar with or does not have the official logos verifying their security.
You must assume it is. No website should have your bank account password, except the real site for your actual bank. I hope you cancelled your registration on this bad site, and did not enter any credit card information!
Never give anyone your password. Your own bank will never ask for it.
It could have been a fake site or the site could have been hacked.
refrain from using the internet for this company. its probably nothing but there is a chance it is an attemt to steel your Identity. i do not give any company my socal security number or bank information unless they can give me an exceptable reson for having it. if its a dumb excuse like " its company policy" then i give nothing... in fact i would neverregister website with ask give anyone my socal security number... EVER!!!
You are likely visiting a phishing site, or a site that may have been hacked. It was likely the phishing (fake site) and you showed good judgement as you knew that something was not on the up and up. As others have stated, never give your bank info out and always trust your gut.
Cheers!
do not give your password out to no one ok work down and get some stamps some websites are fake ok cb
Did they ask you specifically for your bank password or did they ask you for a registration password for their (Royal Mail) site?
The 'real' Royal Mail site is www.royalmail.com - of course, it is still possible that the 'real' site may have been hacked.
scam delete.
It may not be a scam - I have a barclaycard account and when paying by card on some sites a visa verification windows pops up asking you to put in 3 characters of your password
eg 1st Letter 6 letter and 8 letter.
It may have been that but if not avoid like the plague.
