I have heard you can buy games online and download them to your wii (i am interested in buying a wii)...how does this work? is your wii always online if you have a router at home? and are the games good quality like the ones you buy on a disc?
Yes you can download games to your Wii. The way it works is that you purchase a Wii Points card. They are usually $20 for a card of 2000 points. Once you get the card you enter it's unique number into the Wii which transfers the Wii Points over. Then all you have to do is browse the contents of the Wii Shop channel and download what ever you want.
There are old Nintendo, Super Nintendo and even Sega games to download. They range from 500 wii points to 1000 points. Some are a little more. Also, you can look at the games on the WiiWare section. These are new games made by video game designers and made available exclusively via the WiiWare channel. They are, in most cases, of high quality and are completely worth your points.
Also, there is actually a popular system that allows you to gain access to all Nintendo Wii downloads and games. It also allows you to use your Wii to download movies and music. It's called the Unlimited Wii Downloads service.
Here's a website that gives more information on Wii Points and also reviews the Unlimited Wii Downloads service. Check it out and see what you think:
the games there are in two categories
"virtual console" are old games like from the nes snes n64 etc.
"wiiware" are new games that are not as good as games on discs, but are still amazing some examples are lostwinds, megaman 9, and strongbads adventure episodes 1-5
also if you havebuy games online a router, you should set up ur internet though the menu found in the lower left hand corner of the screen
You need to buy a Wii Points Card (20 dollars) or buy the points from the Virtual Console channel using your credit card, then enter the code on the Virtual Console channel. Then you pick the games that you want to buy and it will download to your Wii.
The games are game from the NES, SNES, Sega Master System, Genesis, Neo-Geo, N64, so graphic quality isn't exactly top notch.
You purchase game downloads through the Wii shopping channel. As soon as you go to the Wii shopping channel for the first time it will ask you to set up your connection configurations. Go through all of the steps for that and you will be able to purchase games and various other things.
I have only purchased a few games (Super Mario 3, Galaga) and they seemed to be great quality. I've had no complaints with them.
Well as to buying the games for the Wii (online) there are two wasy you can do this. One you can go to any store that sells Video Games (ex. Wal-Mart, Best Buy, etc.) and buy the Wii Points card which has 2,000 points on it. Here it sells for $20.00. The other way requires a Credit card while on the WiiShop channel.
If you have the Wii set up to be online through the router it will usually always be connected, unless you turn the Wii completely off. And the games you can buy are just as good as what you would(or could have) bought at the store. The ones you can buy are from Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Nintendo and Super Nintendo. There are a few other game systems on there but as per Wii specific games there are none. Also there are games you can buy on there thbuy games onlineat you can only buy from there. As to how those games are i have no idea, ive only bough the original Mario :)
you buy "wii points" from shops, or with a credit card over the web. with these, you can get games the same way you can with the Xbox 360. you need to set up an internet connection, wired or wireless, to your wii, and then you need to buy the points. you can also buy freebys sometimes, like updeates, or wii channels.
after setting up the conection, as long as thhe wii is plugged in, if the light goes yellow when turned off, it is searching for updates on wiiconnnect24, or something like that, and if the slot begins to glow blue, then it is updating. you can turn your wii on when this happens, and unplug it. im not too sure if the update cancels or not when you turn it on...
to be honest, ive not yet bought any games o it, only the free channels, but they are decent enough on the 360, so ill guess they're ok
no your wii isn't always online but when you use an online function it automaticaly connects itself. when you hook your wii to the router you need to go to the store and buy a wii points card. once youve done that enter the code you will have 2000 wii points to spend on either wii ware games which are games you play with the wii remote (usually 1000 wii points) or virtual counsoul games which are classic games from various systems which you need a classic controller for(anywhere from 300 to 1000 wii points).
There are lot of scams out there as far wii games are concerned. But you can download games from my source.
